Is such a waiver 1) common? 2) appropriate?

Is such a waiver 1) common? 2) appropriate? As I understand it, they are common at some FSDOs. For a well-proven design which is progressing well in its flight testing, it doesn't seem like a big issue to let the plane fly over some farmland to visit another mechanic or qualified pilot or some such. I mean.. take a week of vacation and go burn some gas!! Not being Dave, I can't comment on the constraints of his personal situation. I will, however, congratulate you on having some combination of 1) ample vacation time 2) understanding family and 3) low-pressure job, which would not only allow you to take your own advice, but keeps you from being able to see that perhaps "one size doesn't fit all" here. Cheers, Sydney |

Ditto. I didn't find Snowbird's comments to be out of line at all. Oh come on folks..... Look at the calender. What week is it....?????? Pinckneyville weekend...... Does that not ring a bell. Here you have Mr Ammeter the good loyal friend of YOU KNOW WHO. And in a childish, petty, snotty manner, as usual, some of the close buddies of YOU KNOW WHO just can't imagine that a group of people could enjoy the camaraderie of the Pinckneyville weekend without their presence. So is it not expected that just a few days after the Pinckneyville flyin that someone close to YOU KNOW WHO would slime out of the woodwork and take a swipe at YOU KNOW WHO's favourite whipping girl. It's unfortunate that this is the best that Mr. Ammeter is capable of. As a general lurker I can't remember the last time that Mr. Ammeter came into this group and shared a flying story or building experience with the group. Can anyone....??????? |

I didnt really take offense at all, being the previous poster. I must
admit that yea, I may have been a little short sighted, but I guess I was looking in the context that if my goal was to get the aircraft to Pickneyville then I would have made (or attempted) to make it happen if it was safe to do so.. Yea.. its assuming, and presumptuous.. and I dont have a problem with someone directly rebutting me ![]() Dave Morgans wrote: "John Ammeter" wrote You REALLY haven't changed, have you Snowbird... ...I guess I was looking in the context that if my goal was to get the aircraft to Pickneyville then I would have made (or attempted) to make it happen if it was safe to do so.. No offense taken. I had planned to have the hours flown off in time for Pinckneyville, but a lot has happened in the past few months and I haven't been able to work on the airplane or fly it very often. Right now my main priority is to get the bugs worked out so I can ferry it to California in June or July. What testing I have done has been uneventful, and I should be able to get much more time on it in the next few weeks. Attending PJY was a luxury given my time constraints, but one I wouldn't miss unless chained down. One of the highlights of *my* Pinckneyville experience was spending about 20 minutes on the phone with Uncle Bob trying to soak up as much as I could about flying RV's. I wish I'd taken notes. There was also a *gorgeous* -4 that came over from Carbondale, I picked the builder's brain for a while and kept him and his son much later than they really wanted to stay, I think. I'm privledged to know Dave and to witness some of the early flights of his plane, and I happen to know some of the constraints he's working under (which are NOMB to discuss), which kept the attempts from full success. Most of us have multiple goals and we have to fight to balance them out. It's a beautiful plane, and well worth waiting for. And we at PJY got to see another RV4, truly a gorgeous one, too.
