Download free MS Windows Media Encoder, it does a great job and has widest support http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...r/default.aspx yes, but it can hardly be viewed with Linux or MAC. If you want highest quality, yet manageable size, then Quicktime Pro does a great job at MPEG-4, but less popular install base and isn't free: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ therefore it installs cleaner on the system. #m -- If John and Peter get together and take money from Paul at gunpoint, we call it armed robbery. ... because of this? X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2120 I am a Linux admin and an "evangelist" since 1995, that makes it 9 years running now, managed thousands of Linux servers by now, including my own public shell boxen with over 600 nimrods living in it (do you know what it's like?), and you know what? I fsckin' hate Linux on a desktop, complete with all the clumsy user-hostile GUI's like Gnome or KDE, and all the stupid barely functional office implementations like KOffice, OpenOffice and other pretentious garbage. Linux has no place on a desktop, it is not meant as a "user-friendly" OS, it is a server platform, great one at that, and desktop should be left to Microsoft because it's what they do best, and they should stay the F out of the server market. Just my humble five cents :-) HECTOP PP-ASEL-IA http://www.maxho.com maxho_at_maxho.com |

... oh. another addition to "wow, what kind of folks are around here". ************************************************** *************************** MAXHO.COM * SYSTEM USE POLICY * LAST UPDATED ON JANUARY 20, 2000 ************************************************** *************************** WARNING: Anyone found keeping, downloading, writing in source code, compiling, or anyhow otherwise bringing _ANY_ hacking tools onto this machine, will have their account REMOVED immediately, without any questions or answers why, what or any other bull****. This includes all remote host exploits, nukes, flooders, password crackers, dns and ip spoofers, sniffers, irc war-scripts and war-bots, portscanners, localhost exploits or any other tools of network abuse regardless whether they are in source code, binaries or compressed archives, designed for Linux or any other operating system. Anyone bringing stolen information such as but not limited to: credit card numbers, password files, software key codes, etc will be granted a free interview with FBI or their favourite local Gestapo. This means, we reserve the right to inspect user directories for any software that may be used for remote host abuse or violation, and will take immediate action upon finding anything illegal. Any information obtained about any illegal activities violating laws of any country or state by our user, WILL BE forwarded to authorities of that country or state upon request to cooperate with investigation. These rules are enforced without violating your PRIVACY, please read on further for detailed explanation. ************************************************** ***************************** PROXIES: Accessing this machine using any internet system that you have accessed without authorization will result in account termination. This applies to all exploited WinGate proxies or any other internet system. All logs will be forwarded to the remote system admins requesting cooperation. ************************************************** ***************************** IRC: If you are involved in any irc wars, arguments, channel takeovers, etc, your account may be suspended during the commotion. If your irc activity brings any denial of service attacks against this system, or complaints from irc operators and K-Lines, your account will be terminated permanently. Please be careful not to accept any unknown files over dcc send, set your dcc autoget to 0 to assure nobody sends you any lame files without your knowledge. We have a pretty good system of telling where the files came from and even if you did not knowingly bring them here, you still gonna get your ass whooped for not being careful. ************************************************** *************************** SPAM: Using this system to mail out unsolicited advertisiments to local or remote users, harassing usenet newsgroups or using @maxho.com e-mail in any other harassing manner will be stopped by removing your account. ************************************************** *************************** The following software is not permitted to be run on this system at any time: THIS MEANS NO: * eggdrop IRC bots (on any IRC network) * bnc (or any other irc redirector) This list may be, and will be appended at any time by the administration. Upon first violation, the software in question will be removed and the user reprimanded. On the second violation, the account will be closed permanently. ************************************************** *************************** Standard user diskspace quota is 5Mb. This quota will be increased liberally for those who keep interesting and worthwhile webpages. Requests for quota to transfer software and mp3's will be ignored. ************************************************** *************************** When you invite someone into your house, you don't expect them to start shooting at passerbys from your windows, and then smile back at you wondering what's wrong. Sadly this is quite often the case, when you let someone into your shell machine and then catch them nuking and flooding other systems online. Since in every such case the administrator gets the blame and has to deal with consequences, we have a zero-tolerance policy for such violations. So before you start using your account, having read the policy will spare you from embarassment and possibly legal problems. This system is located in the United States and that means that our primary language is English, which also happens to be the international language, especially on the internet. If a user can read the manual on how to use that lame nuker he just compiled, then by all rationale he should have enough English to read the policy. So "no spika inglizi" excuse doesn't cut it here. Nobody here reads your private mail, sniffs through home directories, etc, unlike some paranoid schizos might hope (you know who you are), first of all because of a little thing called PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT. What we have here are well documented ways of logging every program that executes on the system, network ports it connects to, and every file that is transferred to and from the system. All that is done without invading your privacy, but with enough measures to catch anyone up to no good. When you board a plane in the airport you go through a security gate which scans you for anything suspicious, and if you have given the ramp agents enough reasons, then they will be justified to search your luggage and frisk you from head to toes, and of course if they find a bomb on you, then your ass is grass. Why is this done, do I really need to explain? Well it seems so, for every million of passengers going home or flying on business, there is one psycho idiot who is flying to blow himself up along with all other passengers on the plane. And the security measures are there as we learned the hard way for our own safety. Everyone entering the airport is made aware of such security policy, and so is every our user when being given an account, everyone has an option of not accepting the policy and going somewhere else to fly on "Asshole Pacific Airlines" and blow themselves out of the sky as much as they want to. ************************************************** *************************** Having an account on this system is a membership in a PRIVATE club, which MAY BE terminated at any point for any reason at the decision of management. Therefore, make sure you fully understand responsibilities and general human manners of being a member of any community and do realize that irresponsible and stupid behavior endangers everyone else aboard this ship. By logging into this machine you ACCEPT this policy and WILL follow the rules outlined in it. Otherwise you will be beaten up and thrown out to the dogs. ************************************************** *************************** Sincerely your captain MAXHO. It is a matter of letting other people their choice and not TAKING NO CARE as you put it in not so fine words. This is a "either you are with us" choice you let to other people. If you are a good site developer I am not a site developer. I put my own and other friends videos onto DVD or VCD, although I may redo my personal website again for friends and family. you want to please everybody Not even remotely interested. Yes, it takes more time and effort to also please the other 5% than it took to please the first 95%, but it is worth the effort. I doubt it. |
