We cut our Labor Day trip short, in order to get back to the Atlanta area
before the winds picked up beyond the ability of this pilot and his RV-6 to manage. Upon arrival at our home field, there was a direct crosswind varying between 10 and 14 knots, with gusts to 18, IIRC. My personal direct crosswind limits are roughly 15 knots if the wind is steady or 10-12 knots in gusty conditions. I have landed in worse, but I'd prefer to avoid those conditions. My nagging fear was not being able to land at my home field, where I have a hangar, then having to leave the airplane on the ramp somewhere directly in the path of the approaching storm. KB "Gilan" wrote in message ink.net... So how is everyone doing during this hurricane? Here in southern Lake county only 43 mph winds so far at 1:01 am Sunday. Supposed to pick up and get more rain and wind over the next several hours. -- Have a good day and stay out of the trees!
