Personally I think so, with 15 hours of flight instructor flying and then 5
hours of solo time you can get the sport license. Then you just need to add time with an instructor to get the PPL. You can train in the same planes that you will get your PPL in (single engine), but to do your sign off flight and solos it has to be in a sport class plane. So to me it is a good way to be able to fly the sport planes while you continue to work on the PPL. So not only are you getting to have fun flying earlier but you also are getting alot more flying time in as experience, and I have no doubt this will make anyone a better PPL when they do finish up with that.
