We eastern pilots can get unnerved by being unable to see a runway ten miles away in 50-mile visibility. I remember once telling the SAF tower I could see the airport, but not the runway. :-[ |

And I can't count the number of times I've done go-arounds at airports out here because I didn't see the runway until the last minute and was too high, too fast or both. And sometimes, didn't even see the airport.... |
