The (non-cageable) gyros in my Cherokee do seem to take a beating when I'm out doing spins. It's not uncommon for the AI to tumble when the plane rolls over into the spin entry. I've always assumed that gyro maintenance was going to be part of the cost of spinning the plane, but surprisingly, the gyros are just fine.
