If anyone has a prop that would fit my 1982 C152 with a Lycoming 0-235/L2
engine, please let me know. I don't want to have to service a prop

annually!

Thanks again.
Marty

After reading what I think is the recurring AD for that prop, it's not
necessarily an overhaul, but an inspection. It is to check for cracks at the
bolt holes around the hub. This inspection is to be done every 800 hrs or 12
months, if it's OK the prop is painted and returned to service. The other AD
(one-time) has to do with specific bolts and a spacer used to mount the
prop. So you said it was $100 to r/r the prop? How much is a dye test for
cracks? to paint?

Mike,

Thanks for the comment. I'm pretty certain the one time AD for the bolt
holes has been complied with, but I'll check to be sure (I've only had this
152 for a few months). The annual inspection was completed last year with a
dye test for $ 52.00 from a mechanic who is 1,400 miles from where the plane
now lives. I called a local shop, and was told a dye test involved 80% of a
complete overhaul, in that the prop had to be pulled, scraped, tested, and
re-painted. I'm confused about how someone could do this for $ 52.00, but
I'm also in Palm Beach Florida, where dishonesty is only superseded by
incompetence. (Sorry for the bitching, but I've been handed a lot of
nonsense from professionals in my area). I had a new alternator installed by
a very expensive shop, only to find the main harness and wires were pressed
hard against an exhaust pipe.

The reason I need an overhaul is not to comply with the AD, but because the
prop is rough. No visible nicks or cracks, and it doesn't have any
noticeable vibration, but the surface is anything but smooth. At annual, the
IA said it needed an overhaul to be airworthy, and when I found out what it
would cost to just sand and paint a prop, I was amazed. If any A&P's read
this, please toss in an opinion. If anyone has a replacement Sensenich
72CKS6-0-56, please drop me an email.

Marty
