Default Pilot walks away from crash near Manchester, NH airport

I don't think I'd be covered because I initiated the phone call. When they
first called and I said the checkbook had been stolen they told me to call
888-799-3059. I called them, ready to provide the name of the detective
handling the case, and whatever else I could think of. The notes I took
state: "Per Pearl on 1-27-05 failure to provide affividavid and police
report may result in prosecution"

I called the detective handling the case. He called the Reading police
(where the store was that took the stolen check). The Reading police had no
report on file from Wal-Mart. the detective called back and told me not to
worry about it.

The best part is that yesterday, my wife was summoned in the case (it was
her handbag that had been stolen). Wal-Mart wasn't there. They never
reported it, so they were not notified that an arrest had been made. The guy
got 2 1/2 years, concurrent with other time for escaping custody. They told
my wife she could pursue the stolen cash, but it wasn't that much cash, and
would have involved multiple court appearances.

I did send them a note on their website letting them know that an arrest had
been made, and I was still waiting for my apology. They responded with an
automated response that they could not assist me.

Their loss. they are out several thousand dollars, between all their
locations with checks and credit cards.

Steve: That sucks! I would check Mass statutes on consumer protection.
Some states have laws prohibiting this kind of harassment.

I would also write a letter to the Worcester Telgram and the Boston papers
telling them about the treatment you are receiving by Walmart (or their
hired gun bill collectors.) Walmart is trying to expand around these
parts: the LAST thing they want is (more) bad publicity.
