A gulfstream jet carrying Nike executives has a landing gear problem and
is trying to burn fuel to land at Hillsboro, Oregon airport. On CNN.

Been listening to PDX ATC and some other freqs. Of course the FireDept
is preparing, airplanes south of Hillsboro are being vectored around.
PDX Approach and Departure has been warning aircraft of two media
helicopers hovering north of the airport at 1,000 ft, and Marine Drive
is/was closed. Awhile ago he reported fuel down to 12,000lbs from 26,000.

It's a good thing they don't have UHF scanners to listen to military bases.
This stuff happens all the time there but just doesn't get the press cause
they're not broadcasting the comss on VHF.

A big clue is when the fire department shuts down the roads along the
airport runway and starts staging their equipment for rapid deployment.

Although, the ATC chatter was truly fascinating. I heard the tower reporting
that the problem hadn't been fixed, at one point the pilot said "it didn't
work, we need to try something different", heard him cleared for another
flyby and, later, 'We're bringing the engine back up.' (Self: "Engine?!")

Followed by "Looks good. You're clear for the visual approach at your
discretion."
