Put the pivot point through the feathers and the arrow will "fly" backward. |

It is not which side of the pivot has the greatest area, but which side has the greatest "area-arm". Think W&B. Either end could have greater surface area than the other, but the end of the vane with greatest moment (surface area * arm) will trail in the breeze. |
