As I recall, the pet care facilities at the hotel in North Carolina (which I mentioned elsewhere) consisted of a soundproofed room full of cages. This was beside the checkin area. Fido can do just fine overnight, but it's not the thing for several days incarceration. In those cases, an arrangement such as you describe would be just the thing.
