![]() "jsmith" wrote in message ... And just where in Chicago would this new airport be built? Dave, you need to read the newspapers! The proposed location is down by Peotone VOR, about 30-40 miles south of Chicago. It would be run by Chicago. That's why the proposal was dropped 3-4 years ago. The local communities weren't going to allow Chicago control over their land. There would be plenty of graft and corruption to go around, so a deal could yet be crafted. Yes I read newspapers and get information from numerous other news sources as well. Daley would have absolutely no control over the proposed third airport in Peotone. Peotone is not Chicago. That is why he is dead set against it or any other options that do not involve ORD such as expanding Gary or Rockford. He managed to get the huge ORD expansion approved so he could maintain control. I don't know where you get your information but you need to consider other sources. |

Rieth-Riley was the lowest of five bidders, according to aviation consultant Ken Ross, and was about $60,000 under the engineer's estimate. Now that will cause Daley and ORD to shake in their boots. AFAIK most, if not all commuters and airlines, that went into GYY have bailed so the 152s and Boeing will have fun with the 9,000 feet of runway. Those airlines that did go into GYY had no interest in going into ORD or MDW. Sounds like the Feds are a day late with their upgrade funding. GYY will never take meaningful capacity away from MDW or ORD. Daley sees GYY as nothing more than a pimple on an elephants butt. He will throw them a bone every once in a while to keep the noise level down just like he has done with communities surrounding ORD that are willing to work with him on the MULTI BILLION (BILLION not hundreds of thousands) dollar ORD expansion. If Gary acts up he will just go in and bulldoze it. Can't say that I've been in AL for a decade or so. Did find Huntsville to be very high tech and very up to date when it came to news timeliness when I used to spent time there. |
