Paul, Another factor: That factor we had already covered with the "decently programmed" requirement. There was a guy on one newsgroup I read who consistently broke threading. The X-Newsreader header indicated he used a newsreader that was capable of preserving the References header, but when questioned it turns out he was manually deleting that header (and a few others) because he didn't know what it was for. -- Paul Tomblin http://xcski.com/blogs/pt/ "In My Egotistical Opinion, most people's C programs should be indented six feet downward and covered with dirt." -- Blair P. Like when I do this? I manually clean up the quoted text section, blue stuff and all. Montblack |

Montblack,
Like when I do this? Hmm. My newsreader is showing your message in perfect thread order. What am I missing? -- Thomas Borchert (EDDH) |

Like when I do this? When you do what? You haven't removed the References header. I manually clean up the quoted text section, blue stuff and all. I have no idea what "blue stuff" means because I don't use the same newsreader as you. And I was talking about headers, not quoted text. I strongly encourage cleaning up quoted text, but leaving enough for context. -- Paul Tomblin http://xcski.com/blogs/pt/ ....would you work for a company that couldn't tell the difference in quality of its employees' normal work product and the work product of someone on drugs without performing a test? -- socks |

Not many newsreaders these days give you access to the news headers, and for good reason. The guy who was deleting them had just enough knowledge to be dangerous. -- Paul Tomblin http://xcski.com/blogs/pt/ "Towards thee I roll, thou all-destroying but unconquering ******; to the last I grapple with thee; from hell's heart I killfile thee; for hate's sake I spit my last post at thee!
