The point isn't that you don't need DME (well, unless you have a GPS), but that it doesn't appreciably change the resale value of the plane. I bet there are lots of used DMEs on the market from people installing GPSes. I think buyers want the GPS, and don't care about DME. Or is there something else that would give the same information as the DME?
