Didn't see it in the email. Are you sure you got that email from Jim? ![]() I can't tell you or I'd have to kill you. You have seen some of his email haven't you? Apparently I should be seeking legal council right now. I've got no big thing for zoom, generally he is harmless to the well informed. I have not said anywhere that his flight didn't occur. I have said that he is claiming a title he has not earned, and that I, as one who has earned the title, object. All I ask is that he remove reference to "World Record", and replace it with something more appropriate, say "Personal Best". If an advisory board member of an aviation organization claimed to be a pilot and wasn't, would you correct him? That too is easily verifiable, and there is but one recognized authority. You wouldn't accept someone's unofficial license, would you? Al G |

The issue of a record is fairly easily dispensed with if not silenced.
Without the benefit of independant documentation the attempt or feat simply never occurred. There are many persons today with the opinion that Jacob Brodbeck or Gustav Whitehead achieved the world's first powered flight years before the Wright brothers. The claims are not silenced by the fact that only the Wrights had their attempt (and success) documented properly. The others are simply pretenders, they may not be liars, but they hold no record and all the claims in the world will not change recorded fact. The same principal may well apply in the case your ZZZ fellow. He makes an unrecognized claim, there appears to be no record of fact to back the claim and in official terms that means it never happened, he is (or was) also a self admitted liar. But that is unlikely to stifle the claim, especially from someone so clearly enamoured of himself. |

The one blessing is that unlike the Wrights nobody will likely be arguing about ZZZ in a hundred years. It's not so much if a tree falls, it's more a case of if you rob a liquor store and nobody can place you at the scene, you didn't do it in the eyes of any judge. I know a man who claims to have hit twenty hole-in-one shots, all without witnesses. I completely disregard his claim, as I do some others. I've hit a single hole-in-one and doubt I'll ever hit another, but my name is on the clubhouse wall and his isn't. |

The one blessing is that unlike the Wrights nobody will likely be arguing about ZZZ in a hundred years. Could be, but you can rest assured the chances of someone talking about you in a hundred years is but a very small fraction of that. ![]() It's not so much if a tree falls, it's more a case of if you rob a liquor store and nobody can place you at the scene, you didn't do it in the eyes of any judge. chuckle The last time I checked, Lakehurst NAS used to draw literally hundreds of thousands of people, particularly for their Blue Angels performances. You gotta work on your analogies, pal. I know a man who claims to have hit twenty hole-in-one shots, all without witnesses. I completely disregard his claim, as I do some others. I've hit a single hole-in-one and doubt I'll ever hit another, but my name is on the clubhouse wall and his isn't. I tried golf. Once, got a birthday gift, 10 hours of lessons. Was being taught how to hit the ball with the #1, at the driving range. I sucked, then got a bit better and whacked one hard, up and straight down the range. The ball happened to hit a bird, one of those long legged white ones that hang out at landfills and near shorelines. I'm probably the only person in Puerto Rico to have ever accomplished such a feat at a driving range. There must have been some 50 people there, all practicing, just a 30 second walk from the clubhouse. They were all astounded. No plaque on the wall, no record. The only one I care about who was there to remember was my son. Do you think I give a flying intercourse who else remembers, whether any photos were taken, who were the witnesses, etc.? ![]() -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com |

Could be, but you can rest assured the chances of someone talking about you in a hundred years is but a very small fraction of that. ![]() I have never sought attention or the recognition of others, in fact I dislike it. So I am quite glad that nobody will be discussing me in any way next week let alone in years. It's not so much if a tree falls, it's more a case of if you rob a liquor store and nobody can place you at the scene, you didn't do it in the eyes of any judge. chuckle The last time I checked, Lakehurst NAS used to draw literally hundreds of thousands of people, particularly for their Blue Angels performances. You gotta work on your analogies, pal. All those people and nobody to document or witness? And yet the claimant doesn't appear to be the type to avoid the limelight. Curious. Is the analogy imperfect? Lets see: lack of witnesses, didn't happen, I hit all the main points. Oh well, analogies are seldom perfect. Sorry you didn't like golf, it's a social sport. Driving ranges are not much like golf, I know some fellows that are pure dynamite on a driving mat who play fairly poorly. I play mediocre golf, but my partners and I usually manage to have a pleasant day. Last word to you of course (like I could stop you!). |

Puertoricans don't need a sport to socialize, and we don't have to work at it (or pay for it) to have a pleasant day with our friends. To us, it comes naturally. ![]() -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com |

Juan Well, the real questions is, with all these claims of him flying so many thousands of hours, is he actually using that license or are the hours faked... ....have you also seen his logbooks? Can he back up every flight claimed with his, own, written record? |
