I saw the show this morning. It was great. We couldn't ask for better
publicity. A big thanks to Garrett and the Sky Sailing folks for putting this together! I hope this turns in to lots of eager new faces this spring. John Cochrane BB g l i d e r s t u d wrote: Sunday December 17th on the Today Show on NBC, they are showing a story on Sky Sailing featuring Garret Willat and Lester Holt from the Today Show. I'm not sure what time it is showing in your area, you can look it up on your local tv guide if you are interested in watching it. |

![]() I missed the story because of the football show. If they get enough emails about Lester's story they may replay it on the weekday Today Show or put it on their website for playback. The email address, I believe is: Send them a few messages and maybe it will air again. Gunnar |

I saw the show this morning. Garrett, and the others of Sky Sailing did
a Great job on this. And thankfully, NBC also did a great job on the short segment. It includes ground shots, air to air, ground to air, air to ground, wing to cockpit, and cockpit shots. I copied it to VHS tape then transferred it to DVD. Quality is not perfect but darn good. I offer here to send a copy by mail (no reimbursement please) to anyone who emails me with "Sky Sailing" in the subject line. I'll send a DVD to the first five, and if there are more requests than that, I'll need to rethink my offer. Thanks Garrett, Bret & Karen. ![]() BB wrote: We couldn't ask for better publicity. I hope this turns into lots of eager new faces this spring. Great segment, but . . . here we go again! Giving potential soaring pilots the impression that we only soar in the spring and summer. Most of the SSA membership soars year-round, particularly in the sunbelt states from Florida to Texas to New Mexico to Arizona to California, where "eager new faces" are welcome NOW. Let's also include Hawaii, Colorado, Nevada, South Carolina, Tennessee, and many of our fine soaring sites further north and across the USA. So please stop saying "the soaring season is over" just because 300 of 12,000 SSA members stop racing and record-setting in early September. Even some SSA Directors have been guilty of this lately, in their newsletters to the membership. Please promote soaring as a year-round activity! I enjoy my busiest training season during the fall and winter. Marfa still has thermals, just not as strong as spring or summer and therefore pleasant training conditions. Burt Marfa Gliders, west Texas On the way home from Costco yesterday, I watched a plume of snow blowing towards the west from the top of Job's Peak (Job's Peak is S/W of Minden). Launched late to enjoy a beautiful 1.5 hour ridge flight along the eastern flank of the Sierra (Carson Range). Wind was 35 knots at ridge and 40 knots at 12K. As the sun fell, so did cockpit temp, down to 17 F in the pattern. brrrrrrrrr, but fun! bumper ASH26E |
