Not to be pick nits, but I don't believe you can kidnap your own daughter.

Words mean something ...and kidnap means something else, in my book.

Sorry, just my 2 cents worth.

If it was his estranged wife, as the report said, and depending on custody
arrangements, it would be considered a kidnapping, if the mother had custody
at the time.

Granted, that's the current jargon, I simply disagree with the inference -
that a father can kidnap his own daughter.

Much like calling someone "verbally abusive" or "emotionally abusive" kind
of gloms onto a word that used to mean something a little more specific.
Those terms (for example) have an inflated potency (in court say) because of
what "abuse" really means.

Getting back to the nut-job murdering SOB!

I'll do Dr. Jack K one better, and maybe land myself a gig on cable TV's
"Dirty Jobs."

If you feel like you need to go out in a blaze of glory (while also making a
statement) my company will arrange it for you. You choose from one of our
five (FREE) package deals. Again, all at no cost to you!

The only requirement is ...DO NOT include your sweet little daughter in some
pitiful quest for finality. No airplanes either!

No medicals required!

On the subject of medicals, I have to wonder if this guy had been on
anti-depressants, if he and his daughter would still be alive.

Medicals obviously don't catch mental problems, do they?

If he soloed in a 150 he would have had to pass a medical.

I don't believe they test for it so they rely on what you answer on the
form.

I'm not sure happy pills would have done much good. There are people
who see others as simply tools to be manipulated to achieve some
objective -- including hurting other people they are angry with. The
mother who used her baby to hit her husband over the head with is one
example. When a suicide is involved, it could more a case of berserk
agression than of depression.

It's a wiring defect that can sometimes be channeled to make good (and
I'm not being snide) CEOs and Generals.

About anti depressants -- sorry, Jim, but their use has to be
carefully monitored -- you probably already knew that. One of the side
effects ooften mentioned is "thoughts of suicide". "Under professional
care" might have helped, but you know, an intellegent person with a
mental disorder can who chooses to can often mislead a psychologest.
Getting help for mental illnesses almost always requires a cooperative
patient.

I thought the suicide problem was encountered in the initial stages of
getting used to the drugs.

I don't know-don't need them. It does seem strange that people can fly
around without them and have a medical, but if they really need them, they
can't have them, and have a medical.

This is really just a rant about the FAA's slow to adapt / sometimes
puzzling stance on medicals.
