This was originally intended as a reply to MX's callous assumption
that ATP's look down on Private Pilots... But on further reflection, I
would actually like to break it out as a separate topic.

Good choice. I encourage anyone and everyone to do exactly this, if there
is a thought you would like to follow up, without pollution from other
influences. I (and numerous others) would have missed this well written
post, if you had not started a new thread, since I block anything "he"
touches.

This is not to say that all is roses, or that the aviation world is
perfect... Not everyone is friendly, not everyone are friends...
However, within aviation, it has been my experience that warmth and
friendship is the rule, not the exception. What an odd concept in our
cold, crowded, modern existence.

And I feel privileged and honored to be a part of it.

Aviation certainly gives a unique capacity that not many other hobbies, or
interests can match.

There are many other close knit groups that have similar closeness and
sharing, besides aviation though. It is the strong commitment and common
interests that ties groups together.

Jim,
Yesterday my daughter and I drove to KFQD aka: Rutherford County Airport.
We went there because of an article in the most recent "Pilot Getaways" mag.
It had an article about this airport and the on-field restaurant, so off we
went.
When we got there I realized that I didn't bring any money and the closest
town was at least 6 miles back. So I asked the gentleman working at the
restaurant where I find an ATM so that could have lunch there (they only
accept cash) and he said not to worry about paying him today, that I
could pay him next time I came by there.

Now I don't know where else you would get that kind of response,
But it sure was nice to hear.
We did drive back to town for an ATM machine despite his offer, but
came back for a nice cheeseburger and soda.
Yes we could have saved a few dollars by just eating in town at Mc D's
but I don't think Mc D's would have waived the charge till next time.

So if you ever find yourself around KFQD, stop in and see Ron at
the "57 Alpha Cafe" you'll really enjoy the atmosphere and the people.

David - KGYH
