Forest? How do you set 50,000 acres of corn on fire?
chuckle You DO have a point there. Although, I do think I remember seeing about 3 trees growing in a clump around a farm house, one time in Iowa! g You guys kill me. There are whole forests here, and lakes, and big (well, okay, not that big) hills, and some pretty nice river valleys. But that's okay -- before I moved here in '97, I thought everyone in Iowa sat on the front porch playing the banjo... ;-) -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" |

And Iowa has mountains - just like Illinois! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzEmYn1XSRc "That's one of my favorite mountains in Illinois back there." - Tom Servo, MST3K (And that's not all you see on that youtube selection - Peter Graves enrolls at the University of Minnesota! Oh - and beware the giant grasshoppers.) |

As opposed to you Texans, who try to plink high wire insulators with a .22 from the back of their pickups? ;-) Actually, to be honest, I can't tell you where the closest corn field is from our home. It's...somewhere east of town. (It's easy to find corn from the hotel-- they grow it ON THE FIELD at our airport! It brings in $20 - $30K per year.) -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" |

When I was up there, I had a hangar over at C17... It's right in the
middle of a corn field... As you can see from the photo of it on the AirNav web page... http://www.airnav.com/airport/C17 Marion is a cool little strip. When we first moved to Iowa, ten years ago, it was almost unusable. Since then, they've repaved the ramp and runway, and it's just a neat little place to visit. Unfortunately, it's too close to home for us, so we don't go there often. (Although we DID fly into Amana yesterday -- an 18 minute flight. But there is SO much to see and do there, and the challenging little grass strip, that it makes it all worth doing.) -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" |
