The Wright Flyer weighs only 600 lbs but most pilots don't have the skill to fly it. Generally airlines require more hours to fly the bigger planes. As a result those more experienced pilots will tend to make more because they can demand a higher salary in the market (in addition to union factors). Bottom line, its easier to convince someone to fly their C-172 for you than their B-747. -Robert |
