In our case, there was a small crack starting on one of the rudder pedals at
the weld. The area actually looked slightly compressed as though it had been squeezed in a vise. Still, it would have taken a mighty heavy foot to actually break it. I suspect a vertical nose down landing, ouch, would have accomplished that. I wish we could have just welded on a reinforcing plate, like they did on the new pedals, to solve the problem because the new pedals are narrower and much more uncomfortable to use. Doug "JJ Sinclair" wrote in message oups.com... I suspect I could beat the old pedals with a hammer for a few hours with no ill effect. In an accident, like a high speed ground-loop, the pilot may end up more or less standing on the rudder pedals. I have seen cracked rudder pedals where there was no damage to the nose of the glider.......................I suspect this was the issue that lead to this AD. JJ |
