No, I hear they left the pattern in a hurry.

It was avoiding that damn T Rex who kept running out on the runway every
day that was REALLY a PIA :-)

Oh - and Happy (belated) Birthday!

Thank you very much.
DH

Happy Birthday from me, too! Next time you are in DAB area, give me a
call. You need a Rocket ride!

Hi Orval;
Thank you. Janet was just here this week. In fact we just put her
on the plane to return to Ormond Beach this morning. We'll
probably not be down this year but thanks much for the invite.
The Rocket sounds like fun. Not sure if Pop Johnson designed the
Culver Cadet, but I flew one years ago and remember his name
being mentioned at the time.
I loved the old airplanes. Even flew a Mooney Mite several times.
Nearly everyone who gets a chance to fly one of these "old
critters" marvels at their performance compared to the more
"modern" spam cans :-)
Anyway, have a great summer down at Spruce Creek.

The story is that Pop either worked for Culver or had a dealership and
that he took one apart, measured everything, made some changes and built
the first Swift (the all-wood GC-1).

When he lost control of Swift, he took the GC-1 home and 60 days later
he came out with the Rocket 125, a taildragger with retractable
tailwheel.

He then came out with the Rocket 185, completely redesigned and half
again more horsepower. I think that the Mooney brothers had a hand in
the design, as they did with Pop's later creations.

The Rocket 185 is a great flyer, with nice, fingertip control and decent
performance.

I loved the old airplanes. Even flew a Mooney Mite several times.
