Default Helicopter fly-in

Shiver: I know of a spot that exactly meets part of your description: The
Golf Course at Trona CA. I flew over it in my helicopter and couldn't
figure out what it was at first. The putting greens must have been an 8x6
artificial turf areas with the fairways looking worse than ground zero after
multiple nukes. I don't think that that one would work. Even if you just
flew to the putting greens and putted. I think that the putting greens were
too small for a helo unless you limited to ultralite helicopters only.
That said I don't think that you could get the golfers off the course long
enough to do what you suggested. These people tend to be a bit fanatical.
I once watched a skydiver land on a putting green and dropped his canopy
over the head of a guy with his head down putting. I've never heard such
language before. I didn't know that all the nouns, pronouns, adverbs, and
adjectives could be assembled in such a colorful way.

We need a grassy field some where North of the LA area but not out into
the
desert sand. ???

Devil's advocate reporting for duty.

Imagine if you had a HUGE track of land perhaps even out into that
desert sand.

And yes even I can imagine what sand might do to a helicopter.

BUT.... here me out.

What if you set up a really big golf course out in the boonies.

Something where each fairways was perhaps miles long.

You tee off get into your helicopter fly out to the ball hit the ball
again and well you get the idea... don't you.

If you found some kinda rugged place with lots of room to draw out a
nine hole course.... you might get some interest in people coming out
for an event like that.

Your greens could be anything with a little patch of grass and a hole
in the middle.

Your fairways could be anything from dry creek beds, gravel pits, rough
terrain.... you get the idea.

Well that's my thought for the day and I'm sticking to them.

Or......... find a place that is more conventional with a bona fide
golf course nearby who would be interested in having a dozen or more
helicopters fly in for a round of golf.

I'll bet you would find some operator that would be interested in that
idea.

After all it would be their event of the day.

Think of the publicity that could be generated.

Find yourself a movie star that likes flying helicopters, and playing
golf and who might be interested in lending their name for a golf
tournament like no other.

Hows about someone like.... Indiana Jones. Doesn't he own a 206. And
hasn't he rescued a few people at his summer home.

There's got to be tons of others out there in La La Land.

Set it up as a charity event and raise money for some worthwhile cause.

Get involved with your young eagle program.

How bout a fox chase with hidden radio transmitters etc and ham radio
operaters helping the pilots find the hidden fox.

Hell there's tons ideas that you could consider.

The point I'm trying to make is that if you want to entice people to
spend time and money coming out to the west coast and into the
Las Angeles area then you plan an event so interesting, and unique that
will make them want to be there.

A swap meet, BBQ, and belly bumps and bull**** session in the beer tent
isn't going to cut it when there are already numerous events like that
already.

There you go folks.... Now take the ball and run with it.

The devil's advocate is now leaving the group and going to the kitchen
for a sanny and coffee.

Well I'm saying you'd find a big track of land and set up a temporary
golf course.

Some chunk of land out in the boonies where nobody would bother you
during the tournament.

The other idea I yakked about was making arrangements at a real golf
course for the people to fly in by helicopter shoot a round of real
golf and at the end of the game..... fly out.

That's why I said that if a golf course went for it and upwards of a
dozen or more helicopters landed and parked on say the driving range
that it would be the event of the day for the golf course and would
probably generate some media attention.

---------- Place new thought here.

You would obviously have a two or three day event. Well choose a
central, convenient, and practical location that would have events
close by where people could fly to them by helicopter.

Fly in golf game at whatever golf course wanted that unique experience
of having you folks parked on their front lawn.

Young Eagles day where Young Eagles get a chance to go for a ride and
hang out with you guys and gals for the day.

Fly in BBQ and wine tasting (except for the pilots) at a California
Winery...... I'll bet you that some winery would be interested in
having a bunch of helicopters land at their location for a tour and
tasting ( except for the pilots ).

Pick a piece of barren land and get some ham radio operators interested
in setting up hidden little electo foxes that had to be found by the
helicopter pilot and crew.

See what I'm getting at.

A bunch of little oddball things to do as apposed to just parking the
machines for the weekend and hitting the beer tent.

How about a day trip to Catalina Island.... some place like that.

Put together an event where the people flew in by their personal
helicopters.

But also an event where as part of their weekend they would fly to
different events and return at the end of the day (whenever).
