Everyone is going to have their own opinion of headsets here but few
have actually used them all. Call me and I can help narrow down the decision making process. Buying a headset through mail order is hard. Here is a summary of key features of some of the more popular headsets. The higher the price goes, generally the more comfortable the headset and the better the ANR. Pilot USA 1761T Spartan - $295 - Lowest Price. Simple but effective headset. Reasonably comfortable. Lightspeed QFR $375 - Very Quiet Headset - It will squeeze a bit though. Telex 30XT $499 - Rechargeable batteries. Bulky headset but very comfortable, good ANR. David Clark H10-13X $628- Just like their popular H10-13.4 but with ANR. 20 Hour battery life (1 9V Battery) David Clark X11 - $799 - Most comfortable headset. ANR good but not top of the line. Lightspeed Zulu - $850 - Very comfortable, Great ANR. Bluetooth connectivity, music input, Newest headset on the market. Check out my review http://www.youtube.com/airportpilotshop Bose X - $995 - Very Comfortable, Great ANR. 50 hours battery life (2 AA Batteries) Dave Airport Pilot Shop 888-648-4016 www.airportpilotshop.com Naples, FL |

Dave,
Everyone is going to have their own opinion of headsets here but few have actually used them all. Well, for sure you're not the only one ;-) Buying a headset through mail order is hard. Three words: money back guarantee. The higher the price goes, generally the more comfortable the headset and the better the ANR. Not at all sure I agree. In fact, I'm sure I don't. Also, comfort is the one thing that is truly totally subjective. Pilot USA 1761T Spartan - $295 - Lowest Price. Not true. The flight shop branded Lightspeed QFR XC models are at least that cheap and thus the lowest priced. Missing headsets IMHO (not complete): The Lightspeed 20 XLc (excellent value!) and 3G series, the beyerdynamic HS 600, the Sennheisers. Missing factors IMHO: auto-shutoff and music/cell phone input. The first is important for all of us, the second ciritical for all who want to use that feature. -- Thomas Borchert (EDDH) www.aeroversand.de |

Has the 20XLc actually been popular for you. When I put it on the shelf, it collects dust compared to all the other headsets and the 23G and 33G are not in production anymore although Lightspeed is still selling old inventory of the 33G. To limit space in my list I only listed my most popular headsets. There are obviously many more models of headsets available. All reputable stores will offer a 30 day return policy so you can try a headset. Dave Airport Pilot Shop Naples, FL www.airportpilotshop.com |

Dave,
Has the 20XLc actually been popular for you. Very. Pilot stuff here in Germany tend to be more expensive than in the US because of VAT (19 percent), the shipping cost and a smaller market. Many people find brand B to be too expensive. The 20 XLc was a great deal. The Twenty 3G was not offered here. However, both it and the 3Gs couldn't be sold in Germany for the last year or so because a EU regulation on allowable "bad stuff" in electronics (search "ROHS" for details). The headsets exceeded the limits and apparently LS was unable to change that. The Zulu does comply with RoHS and we are looking forward excitedly to offering them from next week on. -- Thomas Borchert (EDDH) |
