: Benjamin Dover writes: You made the statement that Boeing no longer has the 747 in production. That was a flat out lie. The only 747 that the original poster is likely to ride in is a passenger version, and that version is no longer made. The fact that cargo versions and BBJs are still made is irrelevant. The OP's question is irrelevant. The fact that the 747 is still in production is expressly relevant to the accuracy of a statement that you made claiming that the 747 is no longer in production. |

Hey, you're a real mature one here...like I stated...you should have read the post that were already here...that way you wouldn't have posted such a rediculous posting even after you're the one telling to go to Asia or whatever. ( and you say I'm not keeping it on yopic???!!!).....trust me, I know my geography...I know what is in the USA or not..YOU REALLY ARE A MORONIC SCHMUCK!!!! Yea, I did go go what, 30 miles outside of the USA borders to get on a 747.....and yet YOU suggest I go to ASIA??? WHAT IS UP WITH THAT????!!!! DO YOU REALLY EVEN THINK?????? You have the reading comprehension of a lobotomized gerbil, don't you? Along with the anger issues of a rabid wolverine... Try reading what I wrote: "I'd look for flights between Asia and the midwest or east coast making stops in Anchorage or Fairbanks, and book the leg between Alaska and the lower 48. I presume you're not limiting yourself to US carriers with whatever is restraining you from leaving the US? If not, look for extensions of foreign flights from east or west coast points of entry to internal destinations." I'll put that in short words for you. There are two options discussed: - Big plane goes from lower 48 to Alaska. You get off in Alaska. Big plane goes on to Asia without you. (With luck you'll wander off into the woods and get stomped by a moose, but more likely you get on a return flight.) - Big plane goes from Asia to US west coast city. Some people get off. You get on big plane in west coast city. Big plane continues on to second US city. You get off big plane. Can you follow the bouncing balls? Both options have you flying from a US city to another US city, at no time touching Asia. YOU are the one who repeatedly insisted you would not leave the USA. That's a binary constraint - either you do leave it or you don't leave it. You made no exception for entering Canada. YOU are the one who announced, after making such a big deal about that, that you would leave the US, then fly from Canada back to the US. |

I quess I should have been more specific...I mean 747 flights within the CONTINENTAL USA....and I'm everyone one understood what I meant. [Snip] Ted, Did a little research this morning. I do not know where you live, but if you desire to travel on a PAX-based 747 you will have to travel a bit. Here is why. China Airlines, on their timetable, advertise a 747 PAX flight between ANC (Anchorage AK) and JFK (New York City). If I understand "Cabotage" a bit, these flight (#11 and #12, depending on direction) do not qualify as "domestic" flights since the flight is not conducted entirely over US domestic airspace (it has to transit Canadian airspace between its origination and destination). Also, the states of Alaska and Hawaii (along with the US possessions and territories (e.g.: Guam and Puerto Rico)) are not considered as US domestic locations, since they are not located within the Continental US (a.k.a.: "CONUS"). So the restriction on "domestic flights" does not apply. So if you desire to experience a "PAX-Based" 747 flight, this is the only one I can find. As you look at the scheds on Flightaware, you will see domestic 747 routes. However, as I look at them, they are all cargo routes. I do not know if you could "con" UPS, for example, to permit you to buy space on one of their freighters (chances are "Not"). If you desire to fly on a regularly-scheduled 747 PAX flight, given existing scheds, Good Luck! You are SOL! The only other way you could experience a domestic 747 PAX flight is this. I have a friend of mine who has a family member that, some number of years ago, upgraded from FO TO CAPT on the 747 with NWA. After completing training, a period of Initial Operational Experience (IOE) had to be conducted under FAA supervision. These flight, for the most part, are conducted domestically. These flights are very rare, and are not normally announced. So if you can establish some "contacts" with NWA, this may be another way you can achieve your goal. FYI, I have flown 747s in domestic US airspace. The flights were UA 250 (SEA-ORD) and PAA 122 (SFO-SEA). That was a very long time ago. Good luck in your quest. Rick |

It is longer, and wider than most airliners, and other than that, feels just the same, as far as motion, accelerations, and noise. The center section can be a pain, crawling over people to get out. The last time I rode on a 747 I was crammed dead center in the middle of the airplane for seven hours or whatever between a Korean and a French guy. Absolutely miserable. Got to ride first class a few times when I was a kid, because my dad worked for United. That'll spoil a kid quick! After the last trip, though, I don't care if I ever seen the inside of a 747 again. -c |

Worst flight of my life was on a 747 nonstop from London to L.A. back when there were still smoking sections on flights. I'm badly allergic to cigarette smoke, and I got stuck in the very last row of the flight. Not only was it a smoking section, it seemed every smoker on the flight walked back to the back of plane and stood next to me while lighting up. For 11 or 12 hours. Took me two weeks to recover from the effects. |
