Yes you can. You "Downsize" non-critical Government functions and leave
critical stuff alone

FSS is non-critical.

In the business of Air Traffic control you don't want the low bidder do
you???

FSS is not Air Traffic Control.

You get what you pay for. The AFSS mess is a good example

FSS should not have been privatized, it should have been eliminated.

It is very obvious you know little about Air Traffic control

All pilots are not rich with weather beamed into their
aircraft and top notch toys at their disposal

Many lives have been saved and continue to be saved by
timely in-flight weather briefings and guidance provided by
AFSS locations

Eliminate AFSS? Go ahead. People will die

You sound like one of those little sycophant bean counter
FAA managers who are clueless about the real world

Why not eliminate all air traffic control? Just go for it
and hope you don't hit something made of metal or ice or wind.

Geeeez

Actually, I know a great deal about Air Traffic Control.

aircraft and top notch toys at their disposal

weather briefings and guidance provided by AFSS locations

People die with it. Eliminate it and people will will continue to die, but
it won't be because AFSS was eliminated.

Nope, I'm an actual Air Traffic Controller. Nine years at Chicago ARTCC and
going on sixteen years at Green Bay ATCT/TRACON. I also have the additional
duty of Airspace and Procedures Specialist. I've been a pilot for 33 years,
I hold Commercial and Instrument certificates. I've been an aircraft owner
for thirteen years. I majored in Aerospace Engineering. I was in USAF
aircraft maintenance. I've been reading everything about aviation I could
lay my hands on since I learned to read.

That's my background in aviation, what's yours?

Why not eliminate all air traffic control?

ATC was created to provide separation between aircraft operating in IMC. At
present, there's no alternative to it for separation. But FSS is an
entirely different situation, superior alternatives to it have existed for
years.

Just go for it and hope you don't hit something made of metal or ice or
wind.

What is something made of ice or wind?
