A choice of forums is a good thing, not a bad thing. Informing others of
alternatives is a good thing, not a bad thing.

Since the subject has been raised, it is worth mentioning that AOPA
has Aviation-Themed forums on their website. You do have to be a
member to even read them (they are in the "Members" section). Dunno if
they are moderated or not, but they do seem to contain items worth
reading (IMHO).

The AOPA forums are indeed fine forums, although I believe you must be a
member of AOPA to access them. I'm not sure as well how membership in
AOPA is handled for international pilots wishing to access a moderated
forum.
I'm sure there are those here who have that answer handy and will comment.
I believe the current rate at AOPA is 39 dollars????????

Which I pay happily, but I don't bother with their forums precisely because
they are member only, which limits the potential pool of participants.

You go with what works for you personally. Sounds like Usenet is your
cup of tea; open, unmoderated, and no fees.
Enjoy!!
