What college student honor surpasses being elected president of The Harvard Law Review? Like Barack Obama, I received an honor in college, but in my case The New York Times chose not to cover it. Well there is at least one law student named each year. Are all of these guys and girls qualified to be President? |

"Well there is at least one law student named each year. Are all of
these guys and girls qualified to be President?" Nobody has said that being head editor of Harvard law review alone makes a person qualified to be president of the U.S. It is however, solid proof that the person is hard working and intelligent. Very intelligent. For some voters, intelligence is regarded as one of many important measures of whether a person is qualified to be president. Also, if you recall, this post was an attack on Obama's academic record. That's why I brought up the law review thing. |

I hear he tried to sue his way into the college series, even though he
played in an official hat tournament years ago. |

I know lots of people that were good in school including law school that have a hard time making it in the real world. |

Except he came back and taught in law school. And if you read any of the news reports on his years teaching, they say he was a really good teacher, was fair, looked at both sides of the argument, made them think. Made them think about what is involved in the case, not just the law. Sounds better than some of the professors I had in college, and a lot better than most in my PhD program. Then you look at him on the campaign trail, yeah, I'd say he got educated. Start comparing that to McCain or Palin they come up short. |

Except he came back and taught in law school. Interesting that you got the impression that he did well in law school. You know, arguing politics and the qualifications of candidates is a lot like arguing religion. You can find a reason to make a case for about anything you want to put forth as your belief. This is the case with a comparison of Obama vs. McCain. Another fact about arguing politics or religion is that once you hold a belief, nobody is going to change that belief, no matter what is said in support of one side vs. another. My belief on this presidential race is that we need a do-over. Neither candidate is going to be a good president, most likely. For the do-over, have 2 rounds of primaries, all on the same days throughout the country. I didn't get to choose who was going to be nominated to run. It was decided by the time it got to my state. That is unconstitutional, in my view. It needs to be changed, badly. I know that this will never change, or it will not for a good long while, but I can hope! -- Jim in NC |
