That on the "empenage" or empennage is, in fact, the union flag *not*
the cross of St Andrew which forms a part of it!

Of course, you're right, it is the Jack. The Cross is part of it, of
course. We have part of it as well.
Yeah we got the cross in the Fla state flag. The Great Seal of Florida
on the center where the bars cross. When you hang the flag (which is a
solid white background field) up by one end, it looks like a pair of
suspenders (bg).

Bruce

Ah, that's American suspenders rather than British ones I take it?

;-)

The only shame is that Wales is not represented on our flag. No, I'm not
Welsh, but they deserve better in that respect.

Old man suspenders. don't think they have any particular group in mind
lol

Agreed about Wales. You don't hear much about Wales, no Robert the Bruce or
William Wallace, they really are the Rodney Dangerfield of the British
Isles.

The link you supplied goes to a Hawk scheme that I don't remember flying.
The RAF training hawks started to be painted with the blue tops in the
mid-eighties and were mostly repainted black by the mid-nineties. I
wonder
if this is a piece of modellers license? Anyway you mentioned a black
airframe so how about this one that was an official display jet a few
years
ago.

That's what I figured. It probably was done to provide the R/C pilot
something to reference while in flight. Little plane, low contrast, easy to
lose reference to it and have it fly away on you. Particularly when it's
moving at speed.

You obviously missed the point of my comment.

Well, they did have Owen Glendower!

My apologies for the last post - here is the image at a better size,
plus another relating to the endeavours of this Welsh hero.

go read up on it.

A stirring tale of the man voted in at 23rd in a poll of 100 Greatest
Britons in 2000, and best told by Welshmen, I think:

http://www.historic-uk.com/HistoryUK.../Glendower.htm

....and there's more here

http://www.nndb.com/people/292/000092016/

The mosaics that I posted were at Aberystwyth Castle, which was built in
1277 by the English King, Edward I.

Sorry, I've gone off-topic with this, but Wales is home to RAF Valley
from which many of the Hawk training flights take place!

Is he the one about to get arrows in both places arrows oughtn't to be
got?

Well, he might have suffered the slings and arrows of outrageous
fortune, but the cause of his death is unknown.
