Default Required rating for doing annual inspection

Could someone tell me what FAA rating a mechanic must hold in the US
to do a annual inspection on an experimentally certified glider. TIA

Mike,

AFAIK

If the glider is home-built and the original builder still owns the
glider, (s)he can do the annual inspection.

In all other cases, the mechanic must hold an airframe mechanic
certificate with Inspection Authorization (IA), however no Powerplant
rating is needed.

A&P (IA not required unlike a certified glider) is required to sign
off. Who actually does the labor is up to you and your A&P.

Mike,
Any glider in the Experimental catogory can have its yearly Condition
Inspection performed by any mechanic with the Airframe rating.
If the glider has an engine the mechanic would also need the
Powerplant rating.

As you know if it is an "Amateur Built" i.e. homebuilt glider, the
builder may qualify for a certificate that allows the bulider to
perform the Condition Inspection. This is the mis-named Repairman's
Certificate.

An Inspection Authorization, which is a seperate certificate from the
A&P, is needed only when conducting a Annual Inspection for a Type
Certificated aircraft, i.e. SGS-2-33 etc.
