If you don’t have a better final glide example, would that of Luka
Žnidaršič in a Lak 19 during a championship be suitable? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZxvYMC2QvI Although criticised by some, there is an explanation at the end of the clip that he started with a safety margin, encountered sink and strong head wind, but kept plenty of speed on, and had landing options. Straight in approaches were standard for that (and many other competitions). Chris N.
