Do you really think that Iraq is going to be in the market for
military, fighter, jets in the near future?

1-3 years probably not beyond that definitely.

I wonder if they'll get to pick what they want...

First Iraqis will have to choose a political solution. Otherwise they

will
end up standing in a line killing each other, until a political solution

can
be reached.

First you have to define the threat

Israel - a democratic Iraq presents no threat to Israel and vice versa.
Jordan - No threat. Jordan is by no means beligerant...to anybody.
Syria - possible threat, leaky borders letting all sorts of riff-raff into
Iraq but not a need for fighter jets.
Turkey - possible incursion by Turkish military "controlling" the Kurds.
Iran - No threat. Iran will be dealing with internal crisises for some
time.
Kuwait - No threat.
Saudi Arabia - covert threat due to ongoing funding of militant Islamic
orgs., not an easy mark for air combat.

Of these Syria and Iran are probably the most serious.

Once you determine what you need to defend against the threat you have to
determine the budget.

My guess is that it will be a very long time before Iraq buys jet

fighters.
