Greg Cole gave the Barnaby Lecture last year. Very interesting.
SSA pledged funding for the GPS logging.

Did they try to get Red Bull sponsorship? Didn't we all recently
watch another high altitude record heavily sponsored by Red Bull?
Just imagine the publication it will bring to soaring...

I know Red Bull is considered a potential sponsor, but I don't know if
any contacts have been made.

I recall a certain white haired glider pilot was the first to greet Felix Baumgartner when he landed. He's probably a good one to start the get Red Bull request......

Now we know - contact has been achieved. Read about it in the latest newsletter, which should be online already, but isn't. Check here in a day or two:

Here's a partial quote from the article:

"That social gathering took place on January 26
th.

Dennis Tito extended his gracious hospitality to host
both teams. From Red Bull, actually Sage Cheshire
Aerospace, the company that conceived and executed
the jump on behalf of Red Bull, were Art Thompson –
technical project director and visionary behind the
project, Jon Wells – mechanical engineer, Mike Todd –
life support engineer, Mike Jacobs – flight test engineer
and Don Day – meteorologist. From the Perlan team
were Ed Warnock, Doug Perrenod, John Miller, Dennis
Tito, Morgan Sandercock, Greg Cole, Elizabeth Austin,
Jim Payne, Darren Darnborough and myself.

"Myself" refers to Stéphane Fymat, the newsletter editor.
