There is a lot of that around.
GC hook is a little more work on aerotow but not intrinsically unsafe. Possibility of kiting is greater, and the glider is easier to get out of position laterally. Conversely, the glider is easier to get where you want it laterally... Many aerotows later on a CG hook on a Std Cirrus.
