It's just a small accomplishment, and it was no great distance (about 10
miles), however, heading out down wind from the airport in a 1-26, towards
the rain, intending to find that airport you have never flown into or even
seen from the air, well, it is sort of a hair raiser

But, I had a goal set to do it before Aug 12, and Sat was my last chance,
and the thermals were good, and I had a trailer in the parking lot ready to
roll.

I drove out and had a peek at the airport before flying to have a look
around, planned the flight and flew the plan. The hardest part was
convincing myself to turn down wind and go..

Studly/congratulations!!!

Gateway drug indeed...

Bob - some instruction, four OFLs in a 1-26 and I was set for life - W.

Congrats! Now that you know it isn't so scary, you need to find yourself a
nice field to land in. :-)

I've been going further, did a 32 mile round trip over the weekend. The fear of landing out is mostly gone now Soaring is much more fun when you have a mission.
