Default I hear the vario.....

Understand, just hard to believe in that gaggle.

I've seen more - during my first comp we launched 30 gliders in fairly
dire conditions and it turned out that the only lift was directly over
out field, so there were 30 of us just holding height in it until well
after the gate opened. Meanwhile the second task's 30 gliders were
sitting on the field looking up and muttering about plastic showers until
their task got scrubbed. I'm happy to report no plastic showers, though
lots of landouts.

However that video reminds me more of another time, some years later and
again during a Regionals which I wasn't competing in, when I was about
15km from home on a still, heavily overcast day and sitting in a weak
thermal at 2000 ft in my Libelle. 20-30 minutes later when I'd gotten to
3500 and was the first to clear off it was quite obvious that it was the
only thermal in the area because I'd collected 13 other gliders under me:
looking down on them was very similar to that video except that it was
much darker where I was and no sun on the ground anywhere.

Here is a stabilized version of the same video. A lot easier to look at.
