That the increase in workload associated with deploying a turbo causes accidents (bad accidents) when the pilot is also trying to conduct the flight or circuit at low level. I am sorry, it was a somewhat over-reaction spurred on by my dislike of turbos. I think they are dangerous because of the poor operating design of most. Glider workshops are full of them. I too hope the pilot recovers well. Jim |

I don't think it makes any difference if you hit a power line with a pure glider, or a turbo, or a self launch. You are still in a world of trouble at that point.

Of course it makes. If he hit the power lines while trying to start the engine or as a result of the engine not starting than it made all the difference in the world. I am not saying this was the case, just that it could be the case. Additional workload at a critical time is a receipt for tunnel vision.
