Thanks, Sean No reliable data for US. 34000+ US glider ratings, but about 8000 are foreign based. Latest published civil aviation stats, 26424 US based glider ratings. About 10,000 SSA members, so how many flew last year? Maybe 8000+/- 1000 among the rated pilots. Perhaps more if we add-in touring motorgliders. Many do not operate near clubs or commercial operations. Anyway, that's my SWAG. Slight uptick in ratings in 2014, with 200 original and add-ons. FAA 2015 stats will be out about May.
