Thanks for the pictures from Dayton. You did a good job coping with the uneven lighting. It's always a challenge getting decent photos at an aviation museum.

The fourth display hall is due to open soon, so it may be worthwhile revisiting as I have not been to the USAF museum for quite a while.

Cheers,

Indrek Aavisto

Thanks for your kind words, Indrek. Yes, the lighting does create a
challenge, as does the rather cramped presentation. Another problem I
had was identifying some of the aircraft. I had hoped that I could do
this by buying the "Newly Revised" museum catalogue. This was a
disaster. The F-22 is a case in point. The catalogue only lists their
YF-22 so I had to resort to working out the aircraft's serial number,
not easy with bad/uneven lighting and low visibility paint jobs. Then
comes the task of filling in any missing digits in the serial number.

I did look at the museum's web site but its listing of aircraft seems
far from complete.

The Canadian national aircraft museum provides a plan of the museum
which marks the location of all aircraft on permanent display and
their identification. If the USAFM has something similar, I must have
missed it.

So, a lesson learned - take a photo of the disply's description as
well (as I did in the hangers on the other side of the fiels).

Frank.
