My set up runs from the storage card just fine. I wonder if you have it both intalled on the PNA and the micro sd card confuses things? Hmmm? I may be wrong, but I think it keeps all of its preference and setup files in the same directory that the program resides. So if you try to run from the storage card everything (including all the com parameters) must be set up again. I have run it from a storage card without any unique issues that I was aware of. In general, if you have lots of "real" program memory (and you should on an Avier) I think it is best to run any PDA software from memory, not a flash card. Flash memory is slow block access, and has a unique "read many" failure mode not shared with other types of memory. If you read a location enough times it can fail, even though never written to. That is why cell phones, solid state drives, etc. all have "wear leveling" algorithms built into the memory management. I doubt very seriously if something as antiquated as Windows CE has this, being last revised practically before flash memory was invented. I would install it all and get it running in internal memory, then copy all the files to the flash card in the same hierarchy. That gives you a quick backup if the battery dies: copy it back to the Program directory and off you go again. |

On a similar note: I have a Vertica V2, and had experienced several problems using LK8000 where the program terminated during my flights. I was running the program from the Micro SD card as recommended by the instructions. After a long trial and error period, I finally decided to load the program into memory and it is working. I have yet to conmfirm with a flight, but will in a week. (jfitch) indicated an issue may be the root of my problem as the LK would run for about two and a half hours before just stopping. I believed that maybe it had to do with a flaw in the Micro SD component, but logic says the "read many" thing sounds like the culprit. I had to uninstall all the programs that I could to free up memory for the Vertica first. It come with way too much crap on it anyway. So if you are experiencing a similar issue run the program in memory and backup to the card afterwards..

Can you be more specific what programs you were able to remove from the Vertica2?

I just removed the ones that you can uninstall like facebook and the like. I do not remember exactly. Just get rid enough to free up internal memory to around 150 MB. I think I had about 147MB free space and now have around 90MB left over. I tried to install LK into the device when I first got it and it said not enough memory. As far as LK goes Your maps have the largest files so try to limit them if you can. Good luck with this.

Ok Thanks
So if I undertsand it correctly one can install a(one) program onto the PNA program files but it may not leave enough space for other navigational software ( in my case my first choice is WP but I still have not given up on XCSoar or SYM as of yet). If that is the case maybe run the others still from the sd card? l from the sd card? l l from the sd card? Maybe I am wrong here but the guys at Vertica recommending running all navigation programs from the sd card? Do I have this wrong? At least in my case it has been working. 6PK |

Yes, Vertica recommends running the program from the Micro SD card and they recommend using a "fast" card. The trouble I have had is like the symptoms described by Jfitch as the program just gets a data overload after about two to three hours of running. I have not ever since I bought this device had a competed flight without re-starting LK. It is probably my device the Vertica and not the software. Other guys are happy with their installations as far as I know. In my case I had about enough trouble shooting and finally tried something different. My next tactic was to start over with something else. The quality of this display can be improved, but for the price I doubt they will without a subsequent raise in price. I think my device has an intermittent in the card slot component. So I will fly with the program running from memory and see if my problem is fixed.
