![]() "Steven P. McNicoll" wrote in message ink.net... "Jose" wrote in message et... You mean to say that a newly minted VFR pilot is supposed to study all the approach plates at all the airports he might be flying past or need to fly into? I don't see a reason to study those which he'd be flying past, but examining the plates of the airports where he intends to land would be a good idea. How many newly minted VFR pilots even know how to read an approach plate? Every newly minted VFR pilot should be able to identify the fixes in the plan view of an IAP. That's totally absurd. |

I don't know, but I suspect it was quite some time ago. I'll try to find out. Title 14: Aeronautics and Space PART 61-CERTIFICATION: PILOTS, FLIGHT INSTRUCTORS, AND GROUND INSTRUCTORS § 61.105 Aeronautical knowledge. (a) General. A person who is applying for a private pilot certificate must receive and log ground training from an authorized instructor or complete a home-study course on the aeronautical knowledge areas of paragraph (b) of this section that apply to the aircraft category and class rating sought. (4) Use of aeronautical charts for VFR navigation using pilotage, dead reckoning, and navigation systems; (5) Radio communication procedures; Would it not have been easier to say "It wasn't"? |
