Which came first, Field Hockey (called "Hockey" in the UK) or "Ice" Hockey?
The one that came first should be the one without a qualifier. -- Bob (Chief Pilot, White Knuckle Airways) I don't have to like Bush and Cheney (Or Kerry, for that matter) to love America "BTIZ" wrote in message news:44Wqc.48739$%o1.47788@lakeread03... well... seeing how some people play "Street" hockey with sticks and balls.. maybe it should be "Defined" further.. The one that came first gracefully abdicated its name and is now called "Bandy" (except in Russian where its called ... "hockey with ball" :-) Bob (Chief Pilot, White Knuckle Airways) Dima |

UGH! one of my pet peeves....ITS NOT "ICE HOCKEY", IT JUST PLAIN "HOCKEY" When one lives in a part of the world where outside temperatures cannot support year-round ice, one improvises. As a result, field hockey and indoor hockey were created. Most likely "ice" was added to hockey to eliminate confusion. Oh, and I almost forgot tonsil hockey, usually played by teenagers in lust. -- Peter |

For those of us that grew up living and breathing hockey we always get that
little smile when somebody says ice hockey. It instantly indentifies you as an outsider. Much like pronouncing the capital of South Dakota "Pee air". "Steve" wrote in message news ![]() UGH! one of my pet peeves....ITS NOT "ICE HOCKEY", IT JUST PLAIN "HOCKEY" |

Aviation/hockey trivia: Amy Johnson, the 26(?) year old lass with ~100 flight hours who flew her Gypsy Moth solo 11,000 mile from England to Australia in 1930 in 19 days, lost her front teeth to a hockey puck in secondary school, IIRC. http://www.campusprogram.com/referen...y_johnson.html -- Irrational beliefs ultimately lead to irrational acts. -- Larry Dighera, |
