Electronic gadgets and GA power outlets
I've been renting Cessnas for ages but always avoided using the "cigarette
lighter" power outlets, especially on planes with 24-volt electrical systems. This is getting to be a bigger and bigger problem as I accumulate more toys, so my specific question.. (Sorry if it seems hopelessly naive) Is it safe to charge my IPad in a 24-volt 172? |

I assume you mean directly with a cigarette lighter power outlet. The answer is, it depends. There are some chargers that are 12-24V and some that are 12V only. You need to look at the specs for your charger. Or get one of these: http://www.sportys.com/PilotShop/product/9060 -- Jim Pennino Remove .spam.sux to reply. |

A bit spendy, but that's it! I spent two hours last night shopping USB chargers, and none seem to bother listing input voltage specifications. I should have thought of Sportys. Thanks! Vaughn |

Big trucks also have 24V systems. Amazon has one that is less than $5. -- Jim Pennino Remove .spam.sux to reply. |
