Default Loose Wing Covering Possible?

I was wondering it a loose fitting covering that becomes taut when
flying might be possible. This would be for heavily "under chambered"
airfoils, or is it better to glue or something onto the ribs. Has
anyone heard of this before?

A method that has proved popular and reliable for the last 100 years of
ragwing construction involves stitching through the fabric, then taping
over it.

I've heard of it several times. Usually in relation to an inquest
into why some poor guy died. Lost a friend up around Bruce Mines a
while back because of that.
