NAVAL STATION NORFOLK TO RE-OPEN GATE 2
Traffic patterns on Hampton Blvd. remain the same
NORFOLK, Va. – Naval Station Norfolk will re-open Gate 2 on Thursday,
Dec. 9 at 5 a.m. after
a 5-month renovation.
Present traffic patterns will remain in effect with the following
changes: Gate 1 will have
two inbound lanes open for traffic and one outbound lane that must turn
right onto Hampton
Blvd. The two right lanes of Admiral Taussig Blvd. will go right into
Gate 2.
Traffic patterns on Hampton Blvd. will remain the same. Vehicles
traveling north on
Hampton Blvd. must turn left into Gate 6, Gate 5, or follow Hampton
Blvd. to Admiral Taussig
Blvd. where they must turn right.

The upgrades will further increase security measures for the world’s
largest naval
installation. Nearly $4.4 million was spent to redesign Gate 2,
enhancing safety to the
installation and the procedures used by security personnel in the
performance of their duties.
The improvements will include standardized security capability,
infrastructure to support future
technology, and consistent design philosophy all in an effort to provide
appropriate security
protection and to maximize traffic throughput.
