Not sure it would clear the ground, but should definitely be in the
plans.

Or they could go pure jet...

Long time ago - pretty sure they didn't, and don't see any hinging or
cracks. Probably figured spread wings would take out to many
bystanders.

Eep - triggers horrible memory of an open house at McChord AFB, where
I watched a little girl run full tilt into the horizontal stabilizer
of a T-38. No time to warn her, and she took it hard to the forehead.
Dad was there to sweep up the pieces, and she actually seemed to have
not taken much damage beyond a bump and a fair bit of ouching. Betting
she didn't go on to join the Air Force...
