Airbus A380 water purification
Those of you who are backpackers and know of the MSR MIOX purifier may
find this interesting... Airbus A380MIOX CORP WINS WATER PURIFICATION CONTRACT FOR AIRBUS A380 AIRCRAFT MIOX mixed-oxidant technology for water purification has been selected to be installed on the new Airbus A380 aircraft. This plane will be the largest commercial aircraft in the skies and is expected to debut in 2006. Total capacity will be 555 passengers on two complete levels - a "double-decker" design. The A380 will also be the first commercial aircraft with on-board potable water disinfection. MIOX Corporation is part of an international team assembled by Monogram Systems, the leading water and waste systems supplier in the aviation industry. The MIOX mixed-oxidant disinfection system will allow airlines to pick up water anywhere in the world and feel confident that they will be able to purify it and have a safe water system on their planes. The MIOX system, which uses salt, water, and an electrolytic cell to produce a solution containing mixed oxidants, will be designed to meet the aircraft industry's needs. The unit will be able to purify the 650-gallon system and will insure 100% reliability for water purification. |

(The Canadian Military has a disaster-relief setup using the same technology. It was used to provide water during the Tsunami disaster earlier this year) |
