Default Ice Boats

Today I had the pleasure of flying over a frozen lake with four ice boats
sailing, White Bear Lake MN. They look so graceful. It was certainly windy
enough, but I'd be reluctant go out on the ice as mild as this winter has
been. KD

I bet they are pretty. Here in the valley I live, the weather doesn't
get cold enough. Out on the Alvord desert, where I like to fly, the
land sailors run their rigs all over the playa. Pretty neat, too.

At the gym, hardly a morning goes by without film clip of somebody
gone through the ice. The most recent one was a guy who fell through
about 300 feet from cops who were practicing ice-rescue drill. They
pulled him out, whereupon he assaulted one of the cops. (We saw film
of the ice-rescue drill, then a still of the guy being dragged out by
his arms, but alas none of the fracas.)

I still get a chuckle from a small town Tennessee newspaper headline:

Woman Hit In Fracas

When I was a kid, we had a lake cabin near Fertile Minnesota. The newspaper
there was the Fertile Journal. A woman from Fertile was killed in a car
accident in Climax Minnesota, near Ada MN. The headline was Fertile Woman
Killed in Climax. KD
