For turning stuff in to PDF, I use a free utility called CutePDF
http://www.cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp It installs as a virtual printer. So whatever you need turned into PDF (such as a Word Doc) go to File - Print, and select the CutePDF printer, and save the file. That's awesome!
