Did my BFR yesterday and while going over the local sectional, I noticed something and asked the instructor about it. It was a dashed blank line, labelled 'underground pipeline'. Now I have to ask - why if it is underground, is it on the chart ? What is the possible value of it being there ? If it goes through a forest it will be cleared of trees. If it's in snow country it will probably be free of snow during the winter as the product being piped is warm. The pipeline is out of sight but it's presence can be quite visible. It could also be a hint that slow and low aircraft (i.e. pipeline patrol) could be found along that route. |
